Last month, 21-year-old Callum Williams was working as a freelance announcer and interviewer for games in England’s minor leagues when he got the idea tosend a sample of his work to Rob Thomson, Sporting Kansas City’s vice president of communications.

On Saturday, Williams will be SKC’s leadannouncer and presenter on the KSMO telecast of the MLS opener at Chivas USA.  “Covering Major League Soccer is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Williams said. “Iwanted to inject some British passion into MLS — although some of that is already here.”

Williams was asked to do 10 minutes of play-by-play of a few Wizards’ games from lastseason. “Everything we listened to impressed us,” Chris Wyche, the team’s executive vice president of operations, said. “His sound, hisknowledge, his excitement level; he was really committed to doing what he’s doing.”
