After playing against his former club, the Los Angeles Galaxy, at The Home Depot Center last weekend, Philadelphia Union striker Carlos Ruiz said he preferred the atmosphere inPhilly.

The 31-year-old Guatemalan received a warm reception from Galaxy supporters — and chatted with former teammates and fans — but said the “fans in Philly are better than anyother fans in Major League Soccer.”

“Here [in Philadelphia] it’s more like Europe — all the time singing and supporting the team,” said Ruiz, who played for L.A.in 2002-2005 and 2008 and more recently spent time in Greece. “Over there [in Los Angeles], the people go to the stadium to watch the game and don’t do anything. I like it here. I feelmore passion.”

Philly fell, 1-0, but Ruiz said, “I think after a couple more games, we’ll have the confidence to show everyone that Philadelphia has to be considered one of thebest teams in Major League Soccer.” Philly is 2-1-0.
