The pending move of striker Carlos Tevez from Manchester City to Corinthians for a fee of 40 million pounds (approximately $65 million) hit a snag Tuesday when the Brazilian clubaccused City of increasing the fee.
“The club [Manchester City] sent a counter-proposal to Corinthians this morning that, due to the time difference, did not reach the attention of theboard until now,” Corinthians said in a story appearing in The Guardian on Tuesday. “In the counter-proposal, the Premier League club sought to change the structure of payment and the total value ofthe transaction.”
City officials refuted the claim, citing the club had come down from an original price of 50 million pounds (approximately $81 million) because Tevez would be moving to ateam outside of Europe and that only the timing of the first payment — of a scheduled four — is what has changed.
Man City is also pursuing Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero and hopesto prevail against Juventus, Chelsea, and Real Madrid in the battle for his rights.
