Altidore scores in Dutch debut

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jozy Altidore scored 15 minutes after coming on as a substitute in his debut for AZ, a 3-1 winnerover PSV in their Dutch Eredivisie opener. Timothy Chandler (who dropped out of the U.S. squad against Mexico when it was reported he was nursing a knee injury)and Jermaine Jones were the only Americans to start on Saturday’s opening day in the Bundesliga. Former U.S. U-20 and U-17 keeper Quentin Westberg started for Evian in its Ligue 1 debut in France but let in a clanger that allowed host Brest to get back in their game that ended 2-2. Mikkel Diskerud scored for Stabaek in Norway, and Sacha Kljestan hit from the penalty spot for Anderlecht in the Belgian club’s first win of theseason.
