FIFA’s ethics committee will investigate 16 soccer officials from 11 Caribbean nations in the latest fallout from the bribery scandal that resulted in the lifetime ban of Asian FootballConfederation president Mohamed bin Hammam and resignation of Concacaf president Jack Warner.

The officialsare suspected of denying their involvement in the attempt by bin Hammam to buy votes for his aborted FIFA presidential bid at a meeting of Caribbean Football Union members in Port of Spain, Trinidad& Tobago, in May.

Warner ally Colin Klass of Guyana was provisionally suspended “after consideration of the specific information received onthis matter.”

Investigators led by former FBI director Louis Freeh conducted interviews as part of the FIFA ethics committee investigation intothe CFU meeting at which members were offered packets containing $40,000 in cash as gifts. Robert Torres, a supreme court judge from Guam, will lead theinvestigation to be again conducted by Freeh’s team.
