[AROUND THE COUNTRY] One of the most impressive showings on opening day of the 2011 women’s season was William & Mary’s 5-0 win over the Big East’s St.John’s.

Mallory Schaffer and Cortlyn Bristol each scored two goals for William & Mary. Anna Madden added one. The Tribe outshot the Red Storm 22-6.

— Colorado sent a message loud and clear that the scoring drought of 2010 is behind it. TheBuffs, who just scored 24 goals all season, buried Colorado College, 5-0, in the inaugural Colorado Cup.

Josie Grant needed less than sixminutes in the second half to score a hat trick and lead Dayton past Middle Tennessee, 7-2.

— Preseason All-American Sarah Hagen was thedifference, scoring two goals and assisting on a third to lead Wisconsin-Milwaukee to a 3-2 win at Michigan State.
