[SHINDIGZ NATIONAL SOCCER FESTIVAL] Once again, Ft. Wayne, Ind., was the place to be for preseason men’s soccer as the ShinDigZ National Soccer Festival drew 15teams — including last year’s Men’s College Cup finalists, Akron and Louisville. A record crowd of about 7,000 watched Indiana and Duke play to a 1-1 tie on Friday night IPFW’s at Hefner Field.

“Every single seat was taken for the IU game . The bar wasfull,” Terry Stefankiewicz, the director of the Shindigz National Soccer Festival, told the Ft. Wayne Journal-Gazette. “The great thing is there was activity everywhere. We had thisfield going, that field going, this field going.”

AKRON-CREIGHTON (1-1). The Blue Jays jumped on top first when junior Andrew Ribeiro found the net, but Jamaican Darren Mattocks, who finished third in the nation a year ago with 18 goals, scored the equalizer off apass from Bradley transfer Aodhan Quinn before the half.

LOUISVILLE-MICHIGAN (2-0). Cardinal center back Chase Rodgers scored the game-winner in the 60th minute on a backside header from an in swinging corner served by junior PaoloDelPiccolo. The Cardinal attack continued that momentum and 20 minutes later stuck again when senior Nick DeLeon combined with ColinRolfe to put the game out of reach. Louisville finished the game with a 10-1 advantage in shots.

INDIANA-DUKE (1-1). The first half was allIndiana, and the Hoosiers were rewarded when midfielder Harrison Petts scored in the 35th minute. The game-tying goal for Duke came in the 60th minute with arocket shot from Andrew Wenger from 19 yards out.

XAVIER-INDIANA (1-0). A late goal by Darin Kruzich on a long crossing ball into the goalmouth that carried into the net off goalkeeper Nate Mitchell gave theMusketeers the win.

IPFW-DUKE (1-1). Daniel Tweed-Kent scored for the Blue Devils, who settled for two ties inFt. Wayne. The host Mastodons scored when Jason Mills put away the rebound of his own shot.

OHIO STATE-DENVER(1-1). Chris Hegngi posted the Buckeye goal, finishing off a penalty kick in the first half, and the Buckeyes retained the lead until late in regulationwhen Kellan Christensen found the back of the net for the Pioneers.

MICHIGAN STATE-NORTHERN ILLINOIS (2-1).Freshman Isaac Kannah scored a pair of goals for the second game in a row to lead NIU past Michigan State. He also had a pair of goals in theHuskies’ exhibition game against Indianapolis.

WISCONSIN-DENVER (0-0). The draw was Denver’s second in two games.
