The New England Revolution has mutually parted ways with head coach Steve Nicol. Coach of the Revs for the last 10 years, Nicol was MLS’s longest tenured coachin MLS history.

Nicol compiled a 112-108-81 record for New England, guided the Revs to six straight Eastern Conference Championships and four MLS Cups, finishing runner-up each time. Butthis season the Revs finished 5-16-13, finishing in last place of the MLS Eastern Conference with 28 points.

“Robert and I met with Stevie today and we had a productive discussion aboutthis past season and the direction the club needs to go in the future,” said team owner Jonathan Kraft in a statement. “We all agreed a change of direction was needed to reverse thetrend of the past couple of years. Stevie was a successful head coach and a tremendous ambassador for the Revolution for the past decade and set a high standard for success, leading us to fourconference titles in six years. We thank him for all of his contributions.”
