[COLORADO] Bill Hempen, who in 2001 inherited a Colorado women’s program that had never had a winning season and led theBuffaloes to six NCAA Tournament appearances, has left the program.

One of the 15 winningest women’s soccer coaches in NCAA Division I history, Hempen had built Duke into a nationalpowerhouse when he moved to Colorado.

Colorado’s move to Pac-12 in 2011 may have been Hempen’s undoing. The Buffs went 1-9-1 in league play, but they had been trending down in recentyears. They finished 4-13-2 overall for third consecutive losing season.

The Buffs went 114-88-28 overall during Hempen’s 11-year tenure.
