Manchester City was the main mover among Europe’s major teams on the final day of the European transfer window, buying Brazilian right back Maicon from InterMilan and highly rated winger Scott Sinclair from Swansea and selling Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong to AC Milan.

Manchester United sold Dimitar Berbatov to Fulham, while Swansea filled the void left by Sinclair by signing Valencia winger Pablo for aclub record $8.7 million.

In Spain, Barca sent Dutch winger Ibrahim Afellay to Schalke 04, while Real Madrid signed Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
