[MARQUETTE-CENTRAL MICHIGAN] After three straight wins to open the season, No. 8 Marquette suffered its first blemish when the Golden Eagles had to settle for a0-0 draw with Central Michigan Monday afternoon at Valley Fields. The tie with Marquette was the second excellent result for CMU over the Labor Day weekend. The Chippewas beat Dayton, 4-2, onFriday.
Marquette had all kinds of scoring opportunities but couldn’t put the Chippewas away. The Golden Eagles finished with a 22-7 edge in shots and 12-2 in corner kicks.
Senior Stefanie Turner turned in an outstanding effort in the CMU goal with 10 saves, three in overtime, for her seventh career shutout.
The GoldenEagles now head on the road for two tough tests with weekend. They will face No. 14 North Carolina Friday and No. 4 Duke on Sunday at the Duke/Nike Challenge.
