[HONORED] Kyle Weiss, a 19-year-old Californian who five years ago created the nonprofit FUNDaFIELD to build soccer fields for the world’s most vulnerable children, has won the 2012 World ofChildren Award.

Weiss came up with the idea when he attended the 2006 World Cup in Germany and met children from Angola who told him how difficult it was to get soccer equipment inAngola. Weiss he soon discovered the same to be true for kids across Africa.

He and his brother launched FUNDaFIELD, which is entirely run by students, and the organization has builtsoccer fields in South Africa, Kenya and Uganda.

With funding from his World of Children Award, Weiss is leading FUNDaFIELD’s efforts to build soccer fields in Swaziland,Northern Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in still-devastated Haiti.
