Marca readers, the vast majority of which are Real Madrid fans, have voted resoundingly in favor of firing coach Jose Mourinho, who has led Los Blancos to a 16-pointdeficit against Barcelona as La Liga heads into the winter break. In a poll of 100,000 readers of the Madrid-based paper, 82.4 percent said it was time for the Portuguese to go.
Mediocreresults coupled with Mourinho’s off-field behavior, which has seen him alienate himself from Real management, have resulted in many fans turning on him.
The animosity between him andReal’s fans has also become apparent on social networks like Twitter and Facebook, Marca says, adding that his decision to drop goalkeeper Iker Casillas “one ofReal Madrid’s great symbols … is for the ‘Madridistas’ tantamount to declaring war on.”
