[CONCACAF UNDER-17 CHAMPIONSHIP] Despite two first-half goals from the Concorde Fire’s Khalil Stewart, Canada qualifiedfor the Under-17 World Cup thanks to a 4-2 win over Jamaica at the Concacaf Under-17 Championship. Twelve of Canada’s 20 players play on MLS academy teams.

Stewart twice put Jamaicaahead, but Canada got two goals from Andrew Gordon and one apiece from Hansel Boakai and Jordan Hamilton to move into the semifinals, where it will face host Panama, a 4-2 winner over Trinidad & Tobago.

Hamilton is one of five Toronto FC Academy players onthe Canada U-17 roster. The Guinea-born Boakai is on FC Edmonton’s first team for the NASL season, while Hamilton plays for the Woodbridge (Ont.) Strikers.

Defender Samuel Vinson played on the Florida ODP 1996 team that won the 2012 U.S. Youth Soccer ODP national championship, the first ever ODP championship for the state.
