[TORNEO CUATRO NACIONES] The U.S. under-17 women’s national team defeated Mexico, 3-0, to open play at the Torneo Cuatro Naciones in San Jose, Costa Rica. Mallory Pugh, Kaycie Tillman and Madison Haley scored for the USA, which is playingits first tournament competition for the age group.

Mia Hoen-Beck fed Pugh for the first goal, and Tillman scored off a scramble following a cornerkick to give the USA a 2-0 lead after 11 minutes.

U.S. head coach B.J. Snow‘s team will also face host Costa Rica Friay and finish the tournamentwith Japan on Sunday.

Costa Rica, which will host the 2014 U-17 Women’s World Cup, fell to Japan, 6-0, in the other game.
