[MLS SUENO 2013] Alexander Soto, a 14 year-old forward from Elizabeth, N.J., became the youngest player to ever winSueno MLS when he finished first in the 2013 edition of the soccer talent reality event that concluded with the national finals at the Home Depot Center.
“Alexander showedgreat vision and an ability to make a difference on the field,” said MLS Technical Director Alfonso Mondelo. “He has the skill to make the last passor to score, qualities you find in players like [former MLS MVP and FC Dallas midfielder] David Ferreira.”
Luis Aranzazu, a 17-year-old goalkeeper from Pembroke Pines, Fla., on the Allstate “Good Hands” award as the top goalkeeper — El Portero Allstate.
Both players,discovered at the D.C. United open tryouts, have been invited to join an MLS club Academy Team. They were among the 18 national finalists, including 15 field players and three goalkeepers, who were inSouthern California for four days of competition and mentoring by top soccer legends, including former Colombian World Cup playmaker Carlos Valderrama.
Former winners include Chivas USA defender Jorge Villafana and Gabriel Funes Mori, who now plays for RiverPlate.
