[MAKING A LIST] Twenty-seven players at last weekend’s 7Up Sueno Alianza National Finalspresented by Verizon in Southern California received tryout invitations from Mexican first division clubs, MLS’s Chivas USA, and the U.S. and Mexican national team programs.
The trials atMexican clubs usually consist of 10-day to two-week stints with in their Academy programs. Players selected by U.S. Soccer are invited to a youth national team camp or to a Training Center. Thefinalists came out of Alianza’s open tryouts for U-15s and U-19s in 11 cities across the USA attended by 7,000 players.

These young men attending and selected were identified from a field of thousands participating in an 11 city tour .. making them very valuable prospect to a college coach or team.If you watched them play having only come together over a few days, you would think they had played together for quite sometime. I wish them all the best and hope all their dreams come true.
Agreed. I overheard the guadalajara Chivas scout say this was the best teams put together by Alianza since they started and that the U15’s were a highly talented group. The invitations reflect his comments. Great job Alianza!! ODP, are you listening?? Shame on you!!!
In my opinion, I saw quite a bit of National or at least Regional Pool players in this group of U15’s which were 1/2 98’s and 1/2 99’s. All of these kids are nonAcademy players that would otherwise go unnoticed in USA if it werent for Alianza. Maybe this Alianza system is a much better structure for identifying talent no matter the affiliation. No, I am sure of it. If Alianza keeps finding top talent so easily it’s going to make alot of competing systems look very bad.
Actually academy players were advised not to participate, I seriously doubt they will listen next year after all the attention allianza gathered this year. Next year will be try-outs participation will go through the roof. Really don’t understand why non-funded academies have a problem with kids expanding thier options…
Aresenal, The beauty of this event is had the Academy players been given permission to attend, the same interest would have been the same for most of these players because each scout could express their interest for as many players as they would have liked. Can anyone explain what the thought proccess is for a parent of a player that is told by thier Academy that he could not attend an event of great opportunity like this ?? I got to say that parents that comply with such behavior are just as giulty if not more of denying their kids a great opportunity.
Also, players were invited to attend 1-2 week trials for these MX clubs straight out of the preliminary tryouts. Like Luis Arreola was invited to Chivas Guadalajara right after the Chicago tryout. He trained in Guadalajara for 2 weeks and played in the Dynamo Academy Tourney in Houston in July where the Chivas 99′ Team won the 98′ Academy division beating Dynamo Academy 98’s twice. Luis has had the offer by Chivas to be part of their program since then.
Did not say kids given trials would not recieve them if acadmey players show up. Jonathan Gonzalez has also turned down many offers before, including chivas. He is not in an academy setup, therefore can attend any event outside of the academy. All I’m saying is that next year most latinos that are in academies know that they have legitimate chances to open other doors and definitely will attend.
Last year’s event was more localized by areas, don’t recall them having a national team selection. Last year the selected players from northern california scrimmaged San Jose Earthquakes and MTC U15, only a handful of scouts were at hand and not too many offers given. This years version turned alot of heads, it is defenitely on the map now. Congrats to all the players and allianza, keep it coming.
I know you didnt say that. I was just pointing out that the beauty of it is that scouts could pick as many players as they wanted. No limit. I am questioning a legitimate reason for an Academy club to not give their players permission to attend such an event. I am questioning even stronger parents that comply to these rules. Is it really worth it?? What are Academies cuurently offering or able to take away from players that scares their parents into following these orders??
Yes, last year too many people were still skeptical. In Chicago they had a high quality turnout. About 4-5 players were offered trials from top MX teams there. This year a little less even though there were many more trying out. I think it depends on who’s looking and circumstances.
You are right, they don’t offer much, if the intention is to play college ball and get a higher education, then it might be right for the kids. I hear many college coaches attend Academy showcases. Not much exposure to professional teams outside the States, unless you are in national team pool, which is limited to 30 to 40 players. They need to start bringing professional clubs outside of the states to expose more players.
So even though they dont offer much more than college scouting they dont allow their players the opportunities to follow their dreams or at least explore other options?? And parents cater to this behavior why exactly?
