[COLLEGE MEN: Friday/Saturday] No. 1 California remained unbeaten when Alec Sundly scored his second golden goal of theseason to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 overtime win over Santa Clara at Edwards Stadium.
Max Oldham set up the goal with a cross into the Broncos’box, where Sundly was open for the tap-in. Oldham was one of several players to come off the bench and have strong games for Cal.
“Obviously, Max had an unbelievable assist on thewinning goal,” Cal head coach Kevin Grimes said, “and so I think all in all the guys really did a great job coming off the bench and giving us aspark, because we needed it. We feel like we have about 15 to 16 guys capable of starting on this team, so when we put in a sub off the bench, we feel like we’re inserting a level of playerthat’s no different than the starters that are out there.”

It was the first Conference USA match for ODU. “It was a greatteam win on the road in our first C-USA game against last year’s champions,” said ODU coach Alan Dawson. “I am very proud of the boys after battling back from agoal down.” Abe Matamoros put the Hurricanes ahead in the 17th minute, while ODU got the equalizer on a goal in the 35th minute from sophomore Geoffrey Hill.
— No. 20 New Mexico outshot UC Davis, 18-4, but was on the losing end of a 2-1 decision. The game turned three minutes after Ryan Goss put the Aggies ahead from the penalty spot when Michael Calderon’s penalty kick was saved by UC Davis’sOmar Zeeni. Ben McKendry equalized with a shot from outside the area in the 63rd minute, but Matt Wiesenfarth won the game for UC Davis (4-4-1) 11 minutes later.

He became the first Panther to net a hat trick in eight seasons.The last Milwaukee player to score four goals was Neil Dombrowski against Loyola (Ill.) in October 2005.
