ESPN reports that Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is set to team up with David Beckham’s initiative to bring an MLS expansion team to Miami. A source closeto Ross on Monday claimed that RSE Ventures, Ross’ sports marketing company, wants to provide marketing services to the investment group being put together by Beckham and possibly provide atemporary stadium for the proposed team.
According to the source, Beckham has been in talks with Bolivian billionaire Marcelo Claure as well as potential investors fromSingapore, Qatar and Japan about investing in the Miami MLS project. The source also claimed that the Beckham & Co., are looking to use the Dolphins’ Home, Sun Life Stadium, or a stadium atFlorida International University as the Miami team’s temporary home.
ESPN and others have claimed that Beckham has the option of acquiring an MLS franchise for $25 million, but thatoption could expire at the end of the year, according to some reports.
RSE Ventures, through its subsidiary Relevent Sports, hosted last summer’s inaugural International Champions Cup,which included Real Madrid, AC Milan, Chelsea, Juventus and other top international clubs.
