Jurgen Klinsmann has said he expects the MLS players in contention for his USA squad to go out on loan to top European clubs during the MLS offseason, while those who cannot secureloan deals would be expected to join his January training camp that will split between Southern California and Brazil. However, he mentioned that he expects Clint Dempsey (SeattleSounders), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy) and Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City), in particular, to be among those who secure European loan moves.
“Our prioritiesare set so that the first one is if you get a chance to go on loan to Europe, do it,” Klinsmann told USSoccer.com in an interview. “It is very crucial for us that the players understand thateverything they do now today has an influence on Brazil 2014 next summer. They can’t take it easy.”
He added: “Whoever won’t be on loan in January or February overseas is going to bepart of our mandatory January camp. We expect everybody comes in. We’ll try to bring in some younger players [and] have a look at them as well, because we want to get a roster together of 20-23guys that is highly motivated and inspired to go into the World Cup year. It will be exciting. Our plan is to break it down into two periods: one in LA and one in Sao Paulo, Brazil. They will get afirst taste of Brazil in January.”
JK is beginning to make Vince Lombardi look like a slacker !!! Actually this is great. JK is showing what real soccer professionalism looks like.
I wonder how Landon Donovan will react. He said upon resigning with the Galaxy that he would not go out on loan. He now knows Klinsman means business and will leave him off the team. With Moyes as at United now LD could loan there not his usual Everton.
Our players need to be challenged and their commitment needs to be tested. It’s clear that Dempsey is not the same player for the US team that he was when he was being challenged day to day in the Premiere league. I support JK’s thinking on this issue.
We hired Klinsman to take our team higher. He has played World Cups and Coached World Cups. I have always told me brother Kurt that tihs would not be Dempsey’s year in the MLS. Next year will be. He ended up getting injured which made it impossible. But Dempsey is not only a good player but he is a street player too. He will not give up. Nor will Donovan. But Klinsman has made it clear that there are no free rides and he will search widen, cast out, bring in, and do whatever it tkes to advance the USA in a Professional way. The it becomes the luck of the draw. 2012 was a Mexico year in our area. 2013 has been for us and we still have the same coach.
