Miami Heat star LeBron James confirmed on Monday that he’s been talking to former LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham about investing in his efforts to bringan MLS franchise back to Miami. “There’s some interest in both sides,” James, who has an ownership stake in Premier League giant Liverpool, said on Monday of his talks with Beckham. “David has becomea good friend of mine over the last few years, and I think it would be great for this city to have a football club for sure.”

The four-time NBA MVP added: “I have grown a great interest inwatching the game and learning the guys,” he said. “It’s a pretty intense sport, and my kids love it as well. But I’ve grown to the point where I know exactly what’s going on when I’m watching thegame.”

Beckham, it has been reported, has an option to acquire an MLS franchise at the deeply discounted rate of $25 million, although some reports claim that option expires at the end of theyear. He has been talking with several potential investors about getting involved in the project, including Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross
