Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to the Portuguese island of Madeira, his birthplace, to oversee the planning of a new museum dedicated to himself. The Real Madrid forward, whorecently recovered from a thigh injury, was granted leave as he is suspended for both legs of Los Blancos’ Copa del Rey Round of 32 match this weekend after having been sent off in the finalagainst Atletico Madrid last season.

The 28-year-old flew to Funchal in the early hours of Tuesday morning with dozens of boxes packed full of his personal prizes for the project, includingthe 2008 Ballon d’Or as well as shirts photographs and other memorabilia from his youth and professional career. The museum is set to open on Dec. 15, the day after Real’s La Liga clashaway to Osasuna.

“The museum is a dream for Cristiano,” a source close to Ronaldo’s family told Goal.com. “He wants to give something back to Madeira and he came up with the idea alongwith his mother. It’s a family project.”
