Assistant coach Gail Macklin will serve as interim coach of the University of Southern MississippiÆs womenÆs soccer team while a national search is conducted to find a successor to Matt Clark.

Macklin, a former Southern Miss midfielder who played for Northern IrelandÆs national womenÆs team, has been an assistant at Southern Miss, which competes in Conference USA, for three seasons.

Clark last week was hired as head coach at Southern Conference school Elon University. The move enabled ClarkÆs wife, Kim, to coach with her father, Rick Reeves, at Gardner-Webb University, in Boiling Springs, N.C., 139 miles from Elon.

Reeves, who had been womenÆs basketball coach at Southern Miss, was hired in April as head coach at Gardner-Webb, which plays in the Atlantic Sun Conference. ReevesÆ other daughter, Krystal Reeves, was a first-year assistant basketball coach at Gardner-Webb last season.

(Since close of 2004 season)
