Uruguayan doctor Alberto Pan said that injured striker Luis Suarez is “evolving well” but he stopped short of saying that the 27-year-old would be fit to play for thenational team in Brazil. Uruguay faces Costa Rica in its World Cup opener on June 14, before taking on England five days later, and Italy five days after that.

“We can happily say thatLuis’ participation in the World Cup is not ruled out,” Pan said in Montevideo. “It is very risky to give exact dates. We cannot have absolute certainty or clear numbers but thepostoperative period has been very good.” He added: “Luis is very positive. I never heard a negative expression and he says it is better every day. Today [Suárez] is painless [and]is working on fitness.”
