[U.S. OPEN CUP] The New York Cosmos, the 2013 NASL champions, host the New York Red Bulls, the 2103 MLS Supporters Shield winners, for New York bragging rights in their first meeting Saturday night in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. It's one of three MLS-NASL battles on Saturday.

WEDNESDAY. The San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo both won their opening U.S. Open Cup games, though the Quakes needed to recover from a 1-0 deficit to beat Sacramento Republic FC, 2-1, on goals by Khari Stephenson and Cordell Cato at San Francisco's Kezar Stadium. Honduran Alex Lopez has his first goal for the Dynamo to beat the PDL's Laredo Heat, 1-0, in a game that saw both teams finish with 10 players.
