[NWSL] Chicago Red Stars defender Julie Johnston was voted the 2014 Rookie of the Year ahead of Houston Dash forward Kealia Ohai and Washington Spirit defender Crystal Dunn.

The Santa Clara product was the No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 NWSL college draft, behind Dunn and Ohai, and scored two goals to go along with two assists in 21 games during her rookie campaign with the Red Stars, who were one win away from making the playoffs for the first time.

Chicago had the league's second-ranked defense with a 1.08 goals-against average.

Johnston earned her third cap for the USA this year.
