Chelsea striker Diego Costa, the Premier League’s joint-top scorer so far this season with nine goals, will eventually need surgery to repair his damaged hamstring, NBC Sportsrevealed on Monday. According to Neil Ashton, a contributor on NBCSN’s Premier League Live, the surgery would keep Costa out of action for approximately six weeks.

However, the goodnews for Blues fans is that the 26-year-old doesn’t necessarily have to have it now. Ashton points out that Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho would obviously love to delay the surgery for aslong as possible so his star striker misses as little time as possible playing for Chelsea. Ashton earmarked Spain’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus on June 14 as a possibility.

Costa, meanwhile, has missed his last three games for Chelsea in all competitions due to the injury, which Mourinho blames on Spain’s use of him during the last international break. The former AtleticoMadrid man has not played since Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Arsenal on October 5, although Sky Sports on Tuesday reported that Costa is back in full training for the Blues, andis likely to play in Saturday’s clash with QPR at Stamford Bridge.
