[U.S. CLUB SOCCER] The annual National Selection International Tour is heading to South America for the first time in program history.

The id2National Selection targeting boys born in 2001 will be in Argentina Feb. 28-March 10 to compete against top Argentine academy teams. The all-star roster will be announced after the fourth trainingcamp, which will take place Dec. 11-14 at Grande Sports World.

Over the past five years, id2 all-stars have traveled to Germany and the Netherlands in 2010, England and Scotland in 2011,Spain in 2012 and 2013 and Italy in 2014.

Alumni include U.S. U-17 star Christian Pulisic and MLS Homegrown signings Tommy Redding and Ben Swanson.

  1. Do the best players even get seen at a high level when picking a National team is political. One from this State one from that State. Very sad! Lets have a playoff system to determine who represents the USA. PG can have his racist ALL Latino team and every other area can have their Heinz 57 that play like the Britts or Barcelona or Bayern Munich or Klinsmann’s hybrid or whatever style. As teams fall out of the playoff system other winning teams could pickup the best players from the losing clubs.

  2. Neil, save all that. The bigger problem with this is that ID2 is supposed to serve as an identification of top players not yet identified by USA scouts. It does not. It picks players already scouted by USA National Teams staff and mostly already previously invited to National Team Camps. So the name it carries is pretty much meaningless. Its more of just another sponsored trip for most of the already chosen National team. in other words it is not needed for it’s promoted objective. But hey, at least the guy running it can take 1-2 players from his own club every year. PDA.
