Wake Forest, the ACC regular-season champion, is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division I Men’s Tournament whose 48-team field was announced on Monday. Play begins with the first round on Thursdayand second round on Sunday. The 16 seeds have byes into the second round.
The ACC led all conferences with seven teams in the field. Wake Forest was one of five seeds along with No. 2Clemson, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 6 Syracuse and No. 7 Notre Dame. Syracuse defeated Notre Dame in Sunday’s final for its first ACC title.
The American Athletic Conference, Big Ten andConference USA all have four teams in the field.
Despite eight losses, UCLA earned an at-large big and is making its 43rd tournament appearance, the most of any team in the field andsecond all-time behind Saint Louis.
