Leonardo Cuellar, the former Mexican national team captain who built Mexico’s women’s program into a regional power, stepped down as head coach after 18 years. The decision, announced onTuesday, came after Mexico finished last in its group at the 2015 Women’s World Cup and failed to even reach the semifinals of Concacaf qualifying for the Rio Olympics women’s soccer tournament.
