Real Salt Lake fired Jeff Cassar after his three games to start the 2017 MLS season, making it the quickest firing to start the season in league history. The previous record was four games, the time it took the Kansas City Wizards (0-4-0) to fire Ron Newman in 1999 and RSL to fire John Ellinger (0-2-2) in 2007.

Fewest MLS games coached at start of season:
3 Jeff Cassar, Real Salt Lake (0-2-1), 2017
4 Ron Newman, Kansas City (0-4-0), 1999
4 John Ellinger, Real Salt Lake (0-2-2) 2007
5 Octavio Zambrano, LA Galaxy (2-3-0), 1999
5 Jose Luis Sanchez Sola, Chivas USA (3-1-1), 2013
6 Tom Fitzgerald, Columbus (1-3-2), 2001
6 John Carver, Toronto FC (2-2-2), 2009
7 Fernando Clavijo, New England (2-4-1), 2002
8 Eddie Firmani, MetroStars (3-5-0), 1996
8 Ivo Wortman, Miami (1-3-4), 2000
8 Steve Morrow, Dallas Burn (2-3-3) 2007
