Orlando City and Canadian international forward Cyle Larinwas arrested early Thursday morning in Orlando for driving under the influence and was released after spending a mandatory eight hours in custody.

Larin, 22, was stopped at about 2:30 a.m. by the Florida Highway Patrol after being observed driving in the wrong direction down the wrong lane of a four-lane highway. According to a story in the Orlando Sentinel citing the arrest report, field sobriety breath tests produced results of .179 and .182, more than twice the legal limit in Florida of .08.

He was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI and cited for driving on the wrong side of the road. The Highway Patrol report stated the Cadillac he was driving narrowly missed hitting a Mercedes travelling in the correct lane. Larin told officers that he and a female passenger had been at a nightclub in Orlando.

Larin played for Canada Tuesday in a friendly against Curacao in Montreal won by the Canadians, 2-1, and has been named to a 40-man preliminary roster for the Gold Cup that starts in early July. Larin returned to Orlando Wednesday and was not named to the Lions’ game-day roster for an Open Cup match last night that they lost to Miami FC of the NASL, 3-1.

Orlando plays a home league match Saturday against Montreal, but Larin will not be able to play until he undergoes an assessment by MLS’s Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program doctors, cleared by them and the league completes an investigation."

“Major League Soccer will remain in close communication with Orlando City SC, local law enforcement, and the MLS Players Union during this investigation," the league said in a statement released to the media.

Taken No. 1 by Orlando City in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft after a stellar college stint at UConn, Larin won MLS Rookie of the Year honors and in his pro career has scored 39 goals in 74 league games. This season he has notched eight goals, tied for third-best in the league, in 15 matches.
