'Big victory' for Benzema in sextape case

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema, under formal investigation since 2015 over an alleged attempt to blackmail fellow Frenchman Mathieu Valbuena regarding a sex tape, could get the case dropped, according to his lawyer.

Lawyer Patrice Spinosi has argued that an undercover policeman played an "active role" in Benzema to involving in the affair and without his urging nothing would have happened. Valbuena was being blackmailed by a childhood friend of Benzema's.

France's highest judicial court -- the Court of Cassation -- agreed with Spinosi's argument, which the lawyer termed "definitely a big victory" in an interview with France Inter. Read the original story...
