Can someone comment on why the guest teams (non-CONCACAF) are so lackluster this year? I remember a past gold cup featuring Colombia, and there have been other top-tier guest teams, I believe.

There are no guest teams in this Gold Cup. CONCACAF stopped inviting them since 2007. They are all CONCACAF members although, some of them are not FIFA members because they are part of the French team.
