The USA opened play at the 2017 Vaclav Jezek Tournament, its tuneup for the Under-17 World Cup in India, with a 4-1 win over Hungary, which had lost in a U-17 qualifying playoff to France for Europe's fifth spot in India.

Josh Sargent, winner of the Silver Boot at the Under-20 World Cup, led the USA with two goals. Andrew Carleton had a goal and an assist while Timothy Weah scored the other U.S. goal.

The USA led 2-0 at the break, but Hungary drew to within 2-1 and had a chance to equalize before the USA broke the game with two goals, the second on a free kick in the final seconds.

The USA, which won the 2016 Vaclav Jezek Tournament, plays Russia on Wednesday in the village of Brozany nad Ohri (population: 1,100) and Japan on Friday in Lhota. Placement games will be played on Saturday.

Me too, although he should probably play some professional club games first no?

Not sure what the story is. Trialed at PSV and Schalke--did he get offers there? Maybe he's too young (not yet 18) if he doesn't have dual citizenship so have to wait? If it's his choice to stay in the US he will have a hard time breaking through first team--MLS doesn't typically give serious minutes to this type of player, and MLS defenders will punt this guy with impunity.

Not sure about that. Younger players are getting more minutes than in the past in MLS. He can't go abroad until he is 18 which I believe is in 2018.

R2 and Fire, not sure of his desires, but isn't old enough for Europe and club affiliation will certainly help. On the other hand, the vast majority and I know he isn't CP, would have waited and waited on playing CP. Jurgen was mostly pushed into capping him. The thing I see with Sargent, and I confess to my St. Louis bias, we've not seen a forward with this guys game. Yes, he would be pummeled in the MLS, but maybe he'd be protected some too. Whether its stateside or abroad I have a suspicion that he might very well break the mold of US strikers. He's very dynamic, quick, crafty and bilingual with his feet. I'm thinking he's real close now to being our country's best scorer.
