English Premier League clubs agreed to push forward the close of the summer transfer window from Aug. 31 to the Thursday before the start of the season.

Other European leagues have discussedshortening the window but decisions have been made. The effective date relates to the buying club, so EPL clubs can still sell players after the window closes.

That argument — EPL clubs wouldbe at a disadvantage not being able to replace player sold after their window closed — was the strongest against the change. The vote was 15 for and four against with one abstention.
