MLS keeps rolling, and so do we! Here are five players to keep a close eye on in MLS’s Matchday 5.

Tomas Jacob (Atlanta United)

Atlanta United has had a poor start to the 2026 season, with one win and four losses from their first five matches. That hasn’t stopped Tomas Jacob from impressing, though.

The 21-year-old Argentine, in his first season after signing as a U22 Initiative player this winter, has been a fixture in the Five Stripes’ lineup. After starting in central midfield for the first two matches, Jacob moved back to a more natural right back role for the second two. He’s been stellar, especially in last week’s 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union.

Jacob scored what proved to be the winning goal, arriving late in the box to smash home a cross. He showed an ability to get forward in attack while staying defensively responsible, and he’s able to find passes over the top of a backline to play Emmanuel Latte Lath and Miguel Almiron into space.

Jacob looks like a top-tier player already in MLS, and he’s just getting started.
