The U.S. Soccer Federation, along with the federations Australia, France and South Africa, to host the 2003 Confederations Cup. The FIFA Executive Committee name the host during its meetings Sept.
23-24. The biennial tournament is scheduled for June 18-29, 2003. It will be contested by the five confederation champions (AFC, CAF, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, UEFA), Brazil, as World Cup winner, and
the defending FIFA Confederations Cup (France). Previous hosts are Japan/South Korea (2001), Mexico (1999) and Saudi Arabia (1992, 1995 and 1997). Previous champions are France (2001), Mexico
(1999), Brazil (1997), Denmark (1995) and Argentina (1992).
