MLS: D.C. United waives Thompson Conteh

D.C. United waived forward Abdul Thompson Conteh, United's leading scorer last season with 14 goals and one assist (29 points). "With the return to health of Jaime Moreno coupled with the emergence of Santino Quaranta as a quality forward, Conteh's playing time would have been extremely limited," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "Abdul has made many contributions to our club and community since his acquisition and we wish him well in his future endeavors." Conteh, 31, started all five matches in which he appeared for the United this season, tallying one goal in 286 minutes of action. He missed United's last two matches while attending topersonal matters in his native Sierra Leone. In 2000, Conteh led San Jose in scoring with eight goals and three assists (19 points) and the recipient of the 2000 MLS Humanitarian of the Year award for his relief work in his native war-torn Sierra Leone.
