1. Duke's Grella takes weekly honors

Sophomore Mike Grella, whose brilliant second-half goals lifted Duke to a 4-3 victory over Wake Forest in a battle of unbeaten and untied ACC teams last Friday night before a record crowd of 4,323 at Wake's Spry Stadium, is the Soccer America Men's Player of the Week.

Grella tied the score at 2-2 in the 75th minute when he chipped a shot over charging Wake Forest goalie Brian Edwards from 12 yards out. After the teams exchanged goals, Grella won the game in the 83rd minute when he received a pass from Chris Loftus and ripped a shot off the crossbar and straight down into goal for his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Four of Grella's goals have been game-winners.

Grella, who has played for the U.S. U-20 and U-18 teams, spent the summer playing for MLS club Red Bull's Super-20 team and was named to the all-tournament team at the Super-20 finals, where Red Bull finished second to Florida club West Kendall.
