After back-to-back heavy defeats, the New England Revolution relieved Coach Fernando Clavijo has been relieved of his head coaching duties Thursday. Clavijo, 46, had a 22-31-12 mark in his three
seasons as the team's head coach (2-4-1 in 2002). Assistant coach Steve Nicol, the former Scottish international, takes over as interim coach. "This is a possibility that you accept when you
take on the responsibility of leading a professional soccer franchise," said Clavijo. "In the past three years I have been able to touch the lives of many players and people of this organization, and
at the end, that is the real value of this profession." Nicol, 40, played 467 games for Liverpool (1981-1995) and made 27 appearances for Scotland. He served as player/coach of First Division club
Notts County in England in 1995. He was named the head coach of the A-League Boston Bulldogs in 1999 after serving as the assistant coach to start the season.
