It should be another fantastic weekend for Major League Soccer as the regular season inches closer to an end and just about every team with hopes of making the playoffs faces a do-or-die situation.
With DC United, the Chicago Fire and FC Dallas the only teams to have booked safe passage into the next round, five playoff spots are still up for grabs. In the Western Conference, things couldn't be
tighter, with second-place Chivas USA on 42 points, followed by the Houston Dyanmo with 41, the Colorado Rapids in the fourth and final slot with 39, and then Real Salt Lake with 36 and the LA Galaxy
with 33. The Dynamo could lock-in a playoff spot this weekend with a home win over league leader DC United coupled with a Real Salt Lake tie or loss. The same scenario applies for Chivas USA, which is
certainly the surprise package of the season. The only way LA could move on to the postseason to defend its title is to win its remaining games and hope Chivas or Houston loses its remaining games, or
Colorado fails to earn more than 2 points from its remaining games. Colorado would also clinch with a win away to the Revolution and a Real Salt Lake loss. In the east, Kansas City and the Red Bulls
won't be able to clinch with wins this weekend, but both teams, in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the East, badly need the points. A win by KC would knock out the Crew, MLS' worst team.
