Mascherano: I'm Staying at West Ham

In response to Argentina coach Alfio Basile's comments, Javier Mascherano, West Ham's Argentine midfielder, says he has no intention of quitting the club, despite reports linking him to fallen Serie A giant Juventus. "In a soccerl club like this you need time to adapt," Mascherano said. "Maybe the first year is just about getting to know it." Earlier in the week, Juve coach Didier Deschamps implied that Mascherano could join the club as early as the January window. Basile responded by saying he hopes the young midfielder moves to the Italian giants as soon as possible. Nevertheless, Mascherano maintains that he's not going anywhere: "My idea is to stay a long time because it is not right for a player to spend just a year in one country, that's too hard. My wife and baby daughter have joined me, and we are looking for somewhere permanent to live." Basile appears to be concerned that Tevez and Mascherano's poor club form will translate to the international stage. Argentina travels to Spain for an international friendly next Wednesday.
