McClaren: 'English Performance' Needed Against Croatia

England boss Steve McClaren has hit back at criticism in the British press following Saturday's unimpressive 0-0 draw with Macedonia at Old Trafford. "We are looking for an English performance, one of pride, passion, attitude and character," a categorical McClaren told reporters before Wednesday's qualifier against Croatia. "We have come here to win. We go everywhere to win because England can beat anybody on the day. That's what we want to do tomorrow." The Stadion Maksimir in Zagreb has been something of a fortress for Croats, who are unbeaten in 29 consecutive competitive home matches. "Everyone knows it's going to be a difficult game for Englandm" McClaren added, "but that's when you come to the fore -- with your backs against the wall." Croatia's fans will have to be on their best behavior following a warning issued by UEFA regarding racist behavior. UEFA spokesman William Gaillard said Croatia could be expelled from the tournament if its fans repeated racist behaviors like forming swastikas with their bodies during the friendly with Italy in August.
