WUSA: Atlanta has first pick in draft

A draft lottery gave the Atlanta Beat the first pick in the Dec. 10-11 draft. The order will reverse each round, meaning Atlanta will pick last in the second round, first in the third round and so on. Each team logo was put in a separate envelope and placed in a box. Rob Kaler, vice president of legal affairs for the WUSA, picked out eight envelopes and thus the order for the draft was established. The eight WUSA teams will choose from among the 198 players participating at the current combine at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. The big question for Atlanta is: Does the Beat draft China forward Sun Wen with the first pick, draft someone else with the pick or trade the pick? Atlanta has forwards Cindy Parlow and Charmaine Hooper on its roster but has no defenders. Sun Wen, who recently underwent knee surgery, may not play in the league's inaugural season. She is arguably the best player in the world. There will be 15 rounds and the order is as follows: Round One 1. Atlanta Beat 2. Philadelphia Charge 3. San Diego Spirit 4. New York Power 5. Boston Breakers 6. Carolina Tempest 7. Washington Freedom 8. Bay Area CyberRays Round Two (reverse order) 9. Bay Area CyberRays 10. Washington Freedom 11. Carolina Tempest 12. Boston Breakers 13. New York Power 14. San Diego Spirit 15. Philadelphia Charge 16. Atlanta Beat
