The last vestiges of Manchester United's old guard (in the boardroom that is) have now left the club, after finance director Nick Humby and commercial director Andy Anson resigned on Tuesday. The two
men are believed to be unhappy with the way their jobs had changed under the Glazers, and will depart in February. The pair's departure means that chief executive David Gill is now the only non-Glazer
involved in running the club. The Guardian says the move is a blow to Gill in particular because both men were thought to be close to himin fact Gill appointed Anson as the club's commercial director
in February 2004. Both were instrumental in orchestrating recent successful projects, including the expansion of Old Trafford, overseen by Humby, and the negotiation of new shirt sponsor AIG by Anson.
At the time of the Glazer's takeover of the club last year, both Humby and Anson were thought to be crucial in easing through the assimilation. The Guardian suggests that the increasing involvement of
Malcolm Glazer's sons may have pushed them out. Sean Bones, a member of the Manchester United Supporters Trust, says that now is the time for Anson and Humby to reveal "what is going on behind the
scenes at our football club...because we have a lot of questions for them to answer."
