Faustino Asprilla (23rd minute) and the teams were tied, 1-1, at halftime. Chris Armas gave the USA a 2-1 lead in the 51st minute. Colombia equalized for the second time on a spectacular 25-yard
half-volley by Bedoya with nine minutes left in regulation time. In sudden-death overtime, the first 15-minute period passed without a goal. U.S. midfielder Richie Williams came closest when his
shot from the edge of the penalty area hit the woodwork. Early in the second overtime period, Asprilla hit the U.S. upright on a 27-yard free kick. The Colombians had most of the final overtime
