The U.S. U-23 team lost to Portugal's U-23 team, 1-0, in a friendly played Jan. 25 in Alverca, Portugal. The Portuguese, who were eliminated from Olympic qualifying in Europe's round of 16, scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute after U.S. defender Chad McCarty got tangled with a Portugal player in the box.
