3. AMERICANS ABROAD: Feilhaber starts in Hamburg's first win

A week after he made his Bundesliga debut as a halftime sub, 21-year-old Californian Benny Feilhaber got his first start and went the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen, which marked Hamburg's first win of the season. Also in Germany, Hannover 96 (Steve Cherundolo) suffered its first loss in five games while keeper Kasey Keller also lost, with Borussia Moenchengladbach against Hertha Berlin.

In England, Marcus Hahnemann had his worst day since joining the English Premier League with Reading, which was thumped, 4-0, by Arsenal. Compatriot keeper Brad Friedel also suffered a loss with Blackburn, but Tim Howard came out ahead with Everton, which is in sixth place. Neither Claudio Reyna nor DaMarcus Beasley saw action as their Manchester City was thumped, 4-0, by Wigan.
