MLS: Pro-40s notch win in Portugal

Two goals in 17 minutes gave U.S. Pro-40 a 2-1 victory on Dec. 14 over Benfica's reserve team. The win marked the team's first of its international tour, which started with a 3-0 loss Dec. 1 against the Benfica reserves. On Dec. 7, the P-40s beat the Belenenses reserves, 3-1. After an early sixth-minute goal by Benfica midfielder Paulo Cesar, Pro-40 responded in the 39th minute with a goal by midfielder Sergi Daniv (Dallas Burn.) Daniv's goal came off a cross from forward Jamar Beasley (New England). Nine minutes into the second half, U.S. Pro-40 clinched its win. Pro-40 captain Brian Dunseth (New England) collected a deflected ball from a Pro-40 corner kick and chipped the ball inside the goal area, where defender Ubusuku Abukusumo (recently waived by Columbus) moved behind a Benfica defender to head the ball to midfielder Eric Quill (Tampa Bay). Quill worked the ball past a group of defenders and unleashed a shot that rolled into the back right corner. The strike was Quill's second goal in two games. U.S. Pro-40 finishes its tour of Portugal on Thursday, Dec. 16 when against FC Estoril of Portugal's Second Division.
